The license a Hialeah electrician needs
The license Florida issues is a contractor license from the Electrical Contractors' Licensing Board, certified for the whole state or registered for one jurisdiction. While you work for somebody who holds one, s. 489.503 covers you as an employee inside their scope.
The local layer is Miami-Dade's. Hialeah is inside the county, so the Construction Trades Qualifying Board is the authority for journeyman and master credentials here.
The Miami-Dade card, in short
The county's electrical license page names journeyman electrician, journeyman burglar alarm, journeyman fire alarm and journeyman sign electrician. Qualifying takes three years of proven experience in the trade or craft, or the education equivalent, or a combination with no more than half of it education, plus an examination.
Contractor categories above them each need a matching master as the qualifying agent, and cards are issued through Contractor Licensing on 786-315-2880 at the Herbert S. Saffir Permitting and Inspection Center, 11805 SW 26 Street.
Division B of the board, which handles electrical, meets Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, monthly through 2026 with an August recess, at 111 NW 1st Street.
Exams run through Prov. The exam description document gives the journeyman electrician exam 75 questions in 3 hours, referencing NFPA 70, 2017 edition, and the American Electrician's Handbook, 16th edition. Note that the county's three year rule and the 12,000 hour floor in s. 489.5335 do not read the same, and the county page does not reconcile them.

The state exam and where you sit it
The state exams run through Pearson VUE as computer based tests. DBPR says candidates can schedule within 72 hours after approval, by phone or through the Florida electrical program page.
Pearson VUE does not publish a static list of Florida centers for this program. Seats are found through the program test center locator, and the candidate information booklet points candidates the same way, so we're not printing an address we could not confirm.
